Members of Battle.net chosen for the public beta will be notified by email, or they can check their Battle.net account to see if Diablo 3 has been added to the list of available games for them to play.

It seems if you haven’t been invited to the beta, you’re just out of luck to get playing – unless Blizzard sends you a key!

The objective of the game depends on which team you are on:
If you’re a vampire, it is to hunt down the humans and kill them. When you kill a human you render them a vampire.

If you’re a human, it is to band together with the humans, mine, build fortifications from the vampires, and if possible, kill the vampires.

The game can go many ways, and there are a lot of different spots on the map for humans to go and set up their base.

But be careful, when a vampire is persistant they can still break through your fortifications.

It’s a good idea to build lots of towers, and destructible rocks to slow the vampires down and inflict max DPS.

Vampires: It’s a good idea to save your Vespene gas so you can buy items from the shop near your spawn.

Once you die as a vampire, it’s game over. You can opt to stay and watch the game.

Once you die as a human, it’s too another vampire, so you get to be a vampire. If you die here, well, you know.

Overall, this was a pretty interesting custom map. Definitely fun to waste time with.

The map is divided into a 3 v 3 style map. You band together with your team mates to overrun the other teams waves, and get money by controlling a higher portion of your own “lane”

Each person on your team has their own lane (including yourself). Your lane is where you build primarily, and try to push your opponent back.

Good strategies include diversifying your army, getting more units back at your Lab, and countering your opponents forces.

There are always situations where you can turn a game around just by waiting for a collossus or another epic unit and you end up pushing your opponent back.

It seems like Colonial Line Wars has lost it’s popularity in the last few months, but it doesn’t take more then 9 minutes to find a game these days on Battle.net

You can also invest in your lane by purchasing investments at your Lab, similiar to the Banpei in Nexus Wars or the Vespene Geysers in Desert Strike

Colonial Line Wars is a pretty fun tug of war style map that allows you to play in a team environment where your units all spawn at the same time. You can also help your opponents if they are failing by building in their lane. There are no penalties for this, sometimes it’s necessary to do this.

All in all, a great map, and a must play for any tug of war fan.

Available after you reach Lair tech, it can be built for 200 mineral and 200 gas.

This amazing building allows you to load it up with units and build a Nydus Worm at any target location you have visibility on.

Once the Nydus Worm pops out of the ground, you can begin spewing out the units you loaded in at your home bases Nydus Canal.

Sit back and watch as legions of roaches, hydralisks, zerglings, banelings, and more come spewing out ready to do damage.

The Nydus Canal also seems to hold a ridiculously large amount of units, compared to any other unit transport in the game.

Build multiple Nydus Worms and move your army around the map instantly.

Once you’ve learned how to master using the Nydus Canal you’ll see your Zerg game play evolve and become amazing.

With a few overlords you can establish sight on cliffs at the back of your opponents base.

Sneak up a Nydus Worm and take them by surprise.

When they come to meet your army, retreat back to the worm and let their army destroy your worm.

Sit back as your army is safe, as long as your Nydus Canal is safe.

Be careful, if your Nydus Canal gets destroyed with any units still in the canal, they will be killed along with all worms that exist on the map.

Unlike all other custom maps there exists this one called Mafia

I’ve been playing it this past week and I’m not entirely sure what this map is all about.

Let’s be clear. This is not an action map.

If you enjoy playing Marine Arena, or Desert Strike, you won’t get much gratification out of playing Mafia.

It is however an interesting spin on the custom map experience currently available on Starcraft 2.

It appears to present itself a kin a “murder mystery” type map.

The host picks the game settings, this can take up too a minute or more depending on the complexity the host would permit. Players have the option of repicking the host should they not like the settings the host has chosen. Majority must type in -repick for a repick to actually happen.

You’ll get assigned a random character with a role, your name is obfuscated to prevent cheating via Battle.net messaging. Information is power in this map, and as time passes the murderers will be revealed.

Mafia is a turn-based game, with each day and night passing with a quick recap of who died and who survived being presented. There is a discussion time period, typically ranging 30 seconds, allowing players to talk amongst one another to determine what really happened.

It’s often during discussions that votes to lynch a specific player occur. Lynching is synonymous with killing. So if you get killed, you get to observe the game and gain “points” towards future games of Mafia.

Whether or not this is really a great map is still up in the air. While I’ve played a few games, I’m not akin to enjoying the experience. I’d rather enjoy a game of Desert Strike then play Mafia.

But, if you’re into mysteries and unorthodox Starcraft 2 game play, check out Mafia. It’s a pretty interesting game.
